Sim-Racing

When did you start sim-racing and how did you get there?
Before I actually started sim-racing, I used to race a lot of arcade racing games and some simulations without the proper hardware to race. Because of my affinity to racing at all, I decided to join iRacing in September 2014 during one of their discount periods for new members. After that, I was infected.

What sim-racing experience do you have?
In the past, I raced a lot of IndyCar Racing II against Computer opponents and even got a couple of wins in hard mode, though, as said in the previous answer, I only used a PlayStation based gamepad. I also used rFactor for practicing track/car combinations I like or to get myself into a racing weekend for F1 or other series I watched back then. My actual sim-racing experience comes from the time after I joined iRacing. One hand a half years of being regularly on the track while using the iRacing career ladder.

What are your goals for your career?
I want to get more competitive to be able to race against the faster guys, though I doubt I will be able to get as fast as aliens.

What are your goals for the current season?
My main goal is to get some good results in the IMSA Sportscar Series with the C-Spec and to win the division. I also want to get a podium finish in the Nurburgring Racing League series with my teammates Jasper and Lars. Apart from road-racing, I want to survive 200 laps in the iRacing Indy 500.

What’s your most notable achievement in sim-racing?
Third place finishers at the iRacing equivalents of Petit LeMans and the 24h of Spa in 2015. Spa was my first 24h race and also my first race in a GT3 car, so I was really happy we finished on the podium even though I just did three stints. At Road Atlanta I had the most driving time of all our team members. I had two big incidents early in the race that could have costed us the race at all, but with a lot of teamwork we managed to get this podium finish.

Why have you joined TFR in the first place?
Our teammate and my friend Lars already joined the team a couple of months before me. He told me about that and I considered to join the team until I gained more experience. But since my car of choice at that time was the Mustang and TFR was looking for another Mustang driver for the Spirit of VLN series, I joined the team.

What is your favourite car in the iRacing service?
Ruf C-Spec

What is your favourite track in the iRacing service?
Nordschleife, without that Tilke-built mess.

What is your favourite car/track combination?
The C-Spec on the Nordschleife is amazing.

Real life racing

What real live racing experience do you have?
Actually none, except for driving 100km on the German Autobahn every day. It feels like Street Stock Rookies at Charlotte.

What racing series you like to watch?
In that order: WEC, IndyCar, NASCAR Sprint Cup, Formula One, IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Series, DTM, Formula E, WTCC and many more from time to time.

Who is your favourite driver and why?
IndyCar driver Helio Castroneves. I started to like him because of his name (he wasn’t successful that day), but after that I liked his style of driving, his personality and attitude, and how he celebrates a victory.

What is your favourite racing moment?
The final lap of the Indianapolis 500 in 2011.

Which tracks have you visited before and which do you visit regularly?
I can’t say I visit tracks regularly, but I already was at the Nurburgring and I also visited the first Formula E race in Berlin (which doesn’t count as a real track I guess).

How many games of monopoly have you ruined by not playing mercifully?
I was only victim to this.

What is one song that you can’t get out of your head and hum occasionally because of it?
There are too many songs, and unfortunately too many songs my two year old daughter listens to.
